Farm Bill on Senate Floor Today

Congressional Quarterly writer Catharine Richert reported on Friday that, “Anticipating long-winded speeches and a slew of hotly contested amendments, Senate leaders have set aside two weeks to debate the sweeping $283 billion overhaul of farm programs.

“But even that may not be enough time. Disagreements over farm subsidies, immigration and funding will pit Democrats against Republicans, senators from urbanized states against those from rural areas, and budget hawks against big spenders. The disputes could turn the debate into a long slog.
