Farm Bill

Congressional Quarterly writer Catharine Richert reported yesterday that, “House and Senate conferees said Thursday they are close to a deal on the farm bill, but still need President Bush’s stamp of approval.”

Ms. Richert noted that, “Bush is seeking tighter limits on crop subsidy payments. Sen. Saxby Chambliss of Georgia, ranking Republican on the Agriculture Committee, said he met with Bush over lunch to explain the changes conferees have made to the bill to address those concerns.”
