Sen. Sanders Talks About Hunger in Vermont

From the office of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), October 9. “Senator Bernie Sanders joined representatives from the Vermont Foodbank and Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf to address the dramatic decreases in food donations through The Emergency Food Assistance Program, which provides food at no cost to low-income Americans in need of short-term hunger relief, through organizations like the Vermont Foodbank. During FY 2012, the Foodbank saw a 50% reduction in its allotment of TEFAP food; that is more than one million pounds of food. This reduction in food comes during a time of unprecedented need.”

Sen. Sanders noted that he was concerned about the potential of additional cuts to nutrition programs by the House when the lower chamber considers the Farm Bill.
